Have you ever thought about a good way to get out and meet people? Are you having trouble finding Mr. or Ms. Right? Are you looking for that special someone? Are you just missing that one last ingredient in your otherwise fulfilling life? Maybe you know someone who happens to be in this particular predicament?
No doubt, it can be frustrating trying to meet someone these days. I mean, there is of course online dating, but who knows who is REALLY behind that computer screen. Plus, online dating takes a lot of time to write emails back and forth before finally agreeing to meet up. And in my experience at least, usually you KNOW within just a few minutes of actually meeting someone if there is “anything there.”
Then, there are the bars. You can always meet people out at bars. But again, is that really the best place to go looking for that special life partner? I’m not saying that bars are bad, or that it can’t be a place to meet someone. I’m just saying I know it can get old after a while, and feelings of hopelessness and discouragement often arise.
Of course, you can meet people at work. But along with that comes the dangers of awkwardness in the workplace and the risk of difficult fallout if a breakup should occur. Going to work everyday alongside an ex… can we say yikes?!
Hmmmm, oh yeah, there’s always the soda shop! I think we can all agree, long gone are the days of sock hops and soda shops. Do you ever wish we could just go back to the days of arranged marriages?? Hmmmm, maybe not.
Thinking along the right lines… there is an organization called Events and Adventures. Check it out here: http://www.eventsandadventures.com/houston
This is a great idea, because people get out, get active, and have fun! It eases the awkwardness that can come along with dating. It breaks the ice, and really allows people to get to know each other.
The problem is: this group requires membership. And it is QUITE expensive! In fact one review had this to say of the group
They wouldn’t tell him their fee upfront and online, he found stories that might hint at why, tales of exorbitant upfront fees, worthless service, and instead of letting you cancel, they send you to collections…
You can read the entire review here http://consumerist.com/2009/01/06/better-to-be-alone-than-shell-out-for-shady-singles-club/
Well……
Finally, there is a new dating solution! Volunteering as a means of dating!
This is free. This is rewarding. This is easy. This is for a good cause. This is not awkward. This is a great way to meet great people with common interests and watch the sparks fly.
Am I on to something here?? I mean this is revolutionary, right?
Houston Area Volunteers is like a social network. It’s a local group of real people. No membership is required. No commitment is required. This is a chance to dabble in different types of volunteering activities (park clean-ups, food banks, habitat for humanity, SPCA, etc) without having to commit to any one location. You know… like how some volunteering opportunities want volunteers who can work so many hours per week or commit to some sort of schedule? Houston Area Volunteers activities are always one-day events. Come whenever you can!
